On the far eastern end of the island, life is laid-back.
People here live far away from Madalena and the
bustle there which is due to the neighbouring island
of Faial and the ferry service.
Instead, you will find lush nature and behind every
corner there are new surprises: new views, rich colours
and a riot of plants and flowers. Equestrians may
enjoy the beautiful scenery on horseback. Not far from
Piedade an idyllic road will take you to the last port
before the mainland – Ponta da Ilha. There is a
marvellous natural pool too. An insiders' tip is a local
seafood restaurant. Don't let the exterior put you off –
the food is excellent.
